My teaching philosophy:

I feel like I most associate with the progressivist philosophy. I agree that the best learning takes place during experience and I know that this is how I personally learn best. I also believe that everything you do in life should be meaningful to your future in some way. I would call myself a social reconstructionist as well, not only in a teaching style but throughout my everyday life. I believe that every student should be given an equal chance no matter their race or gender or background. I solely believe that what happens in a classroom not only affects the lives of those in the classroom but also can have affects beyond the classroom. I want to be a teacher because I want to affect those lives. I want to teach the future so that they may have a brighter future. I want to educate students in things they not only need to know because of the standards but because it will help them to be a better person. The students of today are the leaders of tomorrow.

I want to focus on student centered teaching. Students at the middle school level are just starting to try to figure out who they are and where they fit in with their peers. I feel like the best way to help these students develop their sense of identity is to give them a chance to make a mistake, that way they can learn from it and move on. Students of today have a lot of different stressors that play into their every day lives. I want my classroom to be an environment where they feel comfortable and are able to be themselves. I will not tolerate bullying or putting each other down, I embrace the fact that everyone in the world is different and that is what keeps things interesting.
